Become a sponsor.

The pilot sponsorship program targets 30 young people and children divided into two groups of which: 20 in second fundamental cycles and 10 in secondary. You can also help teenagers and young adults with the option of financing a complete year of professional training.

It consists of the provision by the sponsor of an annual amount, described below, to meet the following needs of a child for one school year:

• Tuition fees;

• Purchase of books and other mandatory reference documents;

• Purchase of school supplies;

• Purchase of a solar lamp to study at night;

• Provision of regulatory uniform.

Project’s general objectives

• give back the taste and the concrete possibility to each young person, including those whose socio-economic prosperity is not guaranteed, to exercise their citizenship in an active and dynamic way

• offer, especially to the most vulnerable young people, a "plus" for their future by improving, through the project, their self-confidence, their integration profile as well as their personal status

• Encourage and facilitate academic progress

• Develop the skills and potential of children from disadvantaged backgrounds

Specific objectives

• Improve educational opportunities so that every child who attends the Music program can go to school regardless of their social background

• Ensure the follow-up of children from the most disadvantaged backgrounds: orphans, street children

• Help children whose parents are no longer able to bear the costs of schooling.

• Set up support workshops and tutoring sessions

Choice and selection criteria of children

The children applying for sponsorship are among the poorest families in the neighborhood, they are not part of any project in Kay Nou, on the contrary they are those in the community who risk dropping out of school, they will be selected according to their vulnerabilities. Girls have mostly been abused. As for boys, they are generally forced to work very early in order to provide for their families. Often, the latter do not have the means to cover the children's school fees and do not support them during their schooling. Children find themselves caught in the vicious cycle of child exploitation. The more money they work and earn, the less interest they find in furthering their education. The sponsorship will give them the opportunity to escape these situations of abuse and exploitation to refocus on their studies. Today, with the pilot program, 30 children will be selected to receive support from godparents. The godfather or godmother chooses to sponsor one of these children and would be responsible for paying monthly tuition fees until their baccalaureate. School sponsorship is an effective tool to lift these children out of the vicious circle of poverty and ignorance. It offers them all the school supplies required by the schools (notebooks, uniform books, sports shoes, etc.).

Monitoring and Evaluation

  The follow-up between the godfather or godmother with a sponsored child consists of:

• Correspond with your godchild and / or his community through letters, drawings, photos that you will exchange.

• Monitor their progress by receiving an annual report on their education, progress and the status of program activities.

• Have the opportunity to visit your godchild, his family and his community to see the concrete benefits of sponsorship.Les Etapes du parrainage :

1st step :

As we encourage godparents to build strong relationships with the child, we allow you to choose:

• The sex of the child (girl, boy),

• The language of correspondence among, French, Creole or English.

But, you can also leave these choices to those in charge of Viva Rio and EDMAD.

 In this case, we always choose your godchild according to the urgencies of the moment.

2nd step: 

Sponsors will receive the child's educational file within 8 days with the following information:

• the photo of your godchild,

• a detailed description of his living conditions,

• a description of the program in which he is registered,

• and finally the email address of EDMAD and Viva Rio

3rd step:

To bond with the child, we encourage sponsors to send her/him:

• a first letter very quickly after receiving your sponsorship file,

• then from time to time, a card so that he gets to know you (your life, your family, your passions, your city, your tastes, the weather, traditions, etc.), while avoiding what constitutes too much gap between your living conditions and his.

3 to 4 letters per year is an acceptable pace.

It is your godchild who answers the sponsor. In the event that he does not know how to write, a member of his family or a social worker holds the pen.

2 reports per year

Each year, sponsors receive 2 reports:

• a report on the activities and development of the program to which your godchild is attached,

• as well as a progress report describing the development stage of the child and his transition to the next grade.

If you wish to visit your godchild in their country, the management of EDMAD and Viva Rio will help you with your procedures and your contacts to organize your visit on site.
